OMSs treat thousands of patients each year affected with conditions such as facial trauma, temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) and congenital anomalies.  Current law requires that OMSs seek a referral from an allopathic or osteopathic physician when physical therapy is part of a Medicare patient’s treatment.  Such consultation is inefficient and delays patient treatment.

Please contact your representative and ask them to co-sponsor H.R. 5590 to make a technical fix to current statute and allow OMSs to refer patients for physical therapy under Medicare.
